Who Is To Be Blamed?

Just the other day I heard the TV news. Hindmata, Milan subway, Andheri subway, Sion, kurla railway tracks as well as some other areas flood as Mumbai city receives its first heavy monsoon showers. What is so surprising in that? I wondered. Isn’t it completely normal? It’s a yearly phenomenon. It is quite expected nothing shocking or novel. These areas are always in the news, known for water logging and flooding. It would be surprising if they don’t flood in the monsoon, right?  Hah!

So coming to my question- who is to be blamed? The BMC, the GOVT, the Railways, or yes you and me i.e. the citizens themselves? Apart from blaming and criticizing the GOVT and other authorities, what role do we play as responsible citizens? Just think. What do we do to prevent the environment from further degradation? Standing on a water-logged road you blame and curse the monsoon for your misery. Rather than doing so take a minute to think and analyze the root cause of water logging. The main reason being garbage of course. When people of this city litter plastic cans, food wrappers etc. here and there, they have no rights to complain. They are largely responsible for clogging the drains! Nothing will change as long as people continue the use of plastic bags and keep littering anywhere they like. Of course the authorities are responsible for solving the problems, but nothing will ever happen if people continue to be uncivilized, insensitive and irresponsible. Harsh but true. Be the change you want to see. Stop complaining and blaming others.

We all want the “Ache Din”. But no one wants to strive for it. What we fail to realize is that the “Ache Din” are up to a certain extent in our hands. Mr. Modi cannot help us here. It is high time we need to change our Indian mentality- our “Indianity”. We are on the verge of proving Mr. Chetan Bhagat right,-“Iss Desh ko Ache Din He Nahi, Ache Log Bhi chahiye”.

  1. so truely said... i would like to share my experience as i am a regular traveller by local train as all other mumbaities... i see around me.. so many people just throw away things from the trains so casually, as if the tracks are meant for throwing things. when i oppose anyone from doing it, they are annoyed and then look at me as if i am committing a crime, and not them. i really feel bad, specially when the young generation behaves like this, people working in corporate world, behaving so professional, so where does the professionalism go while you litter your own country..?? I WOULD REQUEST ALL THE UPCOMING GENERATION TO APPLY THE DUTIES OF CITIZEN OF THE COUNTRY, THE DISCIPLINE THAT WAS TAUGHT IN SCHOOL DAYS. STOP BLAMING GOVT FOR EVERYTHING AND HELP MR. MODI TO CHANGE OUR COUNTRY FROM DEVELOPING TO A DEVELOPED COUNTRY BECAUSE THIS IS NOT ONLY HIS COUNTRY, THIS IS OUR COUNTRY....!!!
